While it is a well constructed item, as you would expect from Kohler, it does not work as an above-counter vessel. It is really a drop in, unless you want a very strange design. It expects a fairly large hole to be cut into the counter and it then drops into that hole, leaving a much smaller above counter profile. Unfortunately, the Kohler website installation guide doesn't show this nor does the description.
If you are looking for an above counter vessel that you simply place on top of a standard drain cutout, this product is not for you.
What you see in the photograph is the part that is above the counter. It doesn't show you the whole section you need to place within a large cut out

(More customer reviews)This is not a very attractive sink. It has a solid feel to it, but you would be just as well off to order an under-mount sink that is a lot less expensive. My main complaint about the looks is the strangely large lip on the sink. (2 inches wide and 1.5 inches tall probably) It really calls attention to itself without being attractive. First sink broke in shipping, but Amazon took care of it with an overnighted replacement at no charge. Kudos to Amazon for being easy to work with! As for the sink, you can do a lot better.

And big. I have a Yorkie and I can easily wash her or a baby in this sink. The sides are high, the porcelain is thick ... This sink is reminiscent of the old-fashioned wash basin/pitcher combinations. It's really is perfect. It was also well packaged and shipped quickly. This was/is an excellent choice and will definitely be the standout piece wherever used.
