I have purchased a few over the last 3 months, and one of the major problems is the overflow cover grinds on the metal backing plate after it is installed. I have spoken with Kohler about this and they are looking into it, but if you are looking for a cable operated bath drain, for now I would recommend another brand, such as Mountain or Geberit.

(More customer reviews)The replacement cartridges for Kohler shower run in the $30-$40 range, and each unit takes two separate cartridges to repair. I was told by a Kohler dealer that most of the fixture manufacturers are moving to cartridge based systems because (and I quote) "they're more reliable." This is a lie. We have had TWO top-of-the line ($400+) Kohler shower fixtures fail with fewer than six years of service. If that happened in a REAL faucet, I'd just replace a 5ct washer and be done with it. Instead, I'm stuck with either paying over $80 total for the valve cartridge and the pressure-balancing cartridge or replacing the entire system with a different manufacturer's product (which means breaking into the wall behind the fixture, installing the new shower system, patching drywall, painting, etc). As much as I hate the idea, it's actually cheaper in the long run because it's a sure bet that the Kohler repair parts are going to fail at some time down the road. I don't want to have to shell out close to a hundred bucks every couple of years just because I have a little drip in the shower.
Oh, one other thing: Thinking of buying a house? Make sure there are no Kohler fixtures, because they won't honor the warranty if you're not the original owner.
