(More customer reviews)I picked up a 2590 valve (with stops; threaded for 1/2" pipe) because my local code inspector said stops were required, explaining to me that when it came time to change the cartridge in this unit, I wouldn't have to shut off water to the whole house.
Cryin' shame, because I'd much rather shut the water supply off for a few minutes every few years vs. spend the money and time to install this new valve. Oh, well... At Home Depot -- where I purchased my Moen Banbury shower-only faucet -- didn't have **any** options in **any** brands for valves with stops. So I went online.
Amazon's price was within a few bucks the cheapest price that I found elsewhere, just FYI.
A couple of things: I confirmed by email that this valve would indeed work with my faucet. Moen wrote me that (1) the 2590 will work with all current models of the Posi Temp faucets, and (2) I would only need to plug up the unused 4th (bathtub faucet) port with a brass plug, and NOT a complicated loop-back into the shower line as a poster suggested on the Terry Love plumbing forum.
Installation was as close to painless as soldering copper can be. This valve is about 1.5 inches wider than the no-stop valve it replaced. It just took a couple of cuts of the old copper, slid on some copper repair couplings, and the new valve was back in place in a matter of minutes. And of course I would only have had to have done this once if I picked the correct valve from the get-go.
I picked this version with the threaded inlets instead of the one with the soldered inlets so that I wouldn't have to directly heat the valve, possibly damaging the cartridge.
